Why Strategic Research Initiatives (SRIs)?

SRIs do more than define research priorities. They create the structure, partnerships, and support needed to advance impactful research at scale.

Strategic Focus

SRIs establish a clear identity around research areas of strategic importance to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the university mission. By concentrating expertise and resources in key areas, researchers can address significant health challenges while advancing knowledge that serves communities around the world.

Collaboration

SRIs create a gathering point where researchers can connect, share ideas, and build interdisciplinary partnerships. They encourage collaboration across departments and institutions, fostering innovation through coordinated efforts and shared expertise.

Support

Each SRI serves as an organizational framework that helps researchers access support services, research infrastructure, and appropriate internal funding opportunities. This structure enables faculty and students to pursue ambitious research projects with greater efficiency and impact.

Global Integration

SRIs strengthen the connection between research and global health efforts. By aligning discovery, education, and service, SRIs help the BYU School of Medicine address local and international health needs while preparing future physician-scientists to improve lives worldwide.
